Wantastiquet-Monadnock Trail

Gap Mountain Update

October 3, 2021 by jimb

The tree harvest on Gap Mountain was completed this spring and the South Parking Lot is now open and has been regraded. The trail blazing has been refreshed on the trail section from the center of Troy to Gap Mountain. Look for white painted rectangles on telephone poles along the road and on trees in the forest.
With all the rain this summer expect muddy conditions on some sections of the trail!
The section of the trail over Fern Hill off Quarry Road is now more open with several “patch cuts” which open views to Mount Monadnock and East Hill. These patch cuts should fill in with low brush and trees which will provide improved habitat for smaller animals such as rabbits and grouse.
Please note that the gates on the South and North parking lots of Gap Mountain are closed during the winter months. Expect the gates to be closed after the first significant snow of the season.
