Wantastiquet-Monadnock Trail

Gap Mountain Open

April 17, 2021 by jimb

The the timber harvest on the south side of Gap Mountain which closed down the Spur Trail to the M-M trail and the summit is complete. The machinery (an excavator) plans to return to do work on the entrance and parking lot  as well as implementing BMP’s in the woods.  Also, a workday with a small number of Forest Society Staff and volunteers is in the works to do touch up on a few section of the trails that were impacted by the harvest. The parking lot gates remain closed until it is deemed they can accommodate traffic. Right now at least the south parking lot is pretty wet as is usual for this time of year.  The trails are open for hiking but the roads may get congested from folks wanting to get out and enjoy the woods. There is not sufficient parking on the sides of the road besides just a few cars at either of our trailheads on Gap Mountain.  The “north lot” and the “south lot” will be open soon.
